“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for see, I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.’” Luke 2:10-11

As I’ve been listening to all the familiar Christmas songs this season, one particular phrase has stood out to me like never before. In the timeless carol, Silent Night, there is a line in the third verse that says...

... with the dawn of redeeming grace.

I find this phrase to be profoundly beautiful.

The dawn of redeeming grace is the day God came to us as the smallest, most powerless, most vulnerable of people, held safely in His mother’s arms for a purpose to alter the course of all creation.

The dawn of redeeming grace is the continued revelation of the Trinity as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—the Triune reality that speaks Life to us. It is often thought that “the universe” is the highest power that speaks to us, but I am continually reminded that it is not the universe that speaks or guides or reveals; it is the Trinity of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. This is the Power behind the veil of the universe. This is the Love and Mercy that is the air we breathe. This is the Grace and Peace that transcends all we will ever understand.

The dawn of redeeming grace was not just one morning when something mythically memorable occurred. It was, and is, and will always be the ever-present reality of the Creator of Life and Love coming to find us, meeting us right where we are, and inviting us into a personal, transformational, real-time, and eternal relationship with Him.

The dawn of redeeming grace is manifested through one solitary life—the Life lived to show us the Way everlasting, the Life lived to die a criminal’s death and rise from the grave so that redemption and restoration would be possible and made known to a world in need of saving.

Come and see the Son of God, Love’s pure light. Yes, radiant beams stream from His holy face because He is the Light of the world that has come to us, for us.

Take heart, for today is the dawn of Redeeming Grace.
