Giving Back - Kingdom Initiatives

 

In The Lord’s Prayer we pray, "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” That’s not just a prayer for another time and another place. It's a prayer for here and now! God’s Kingdom is one in which no one is hungry or thirsty, no one is without shelter, everyone has the opportunity to earn a fair and equitable living, and no one is exploited or treated unjustly.

 

Micah 6:8 says, “And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”  

 

To this end, I would like to highlight a very special organization called Stone Haven, a safe community for survivors of sex trafficking, founded by my former student and friend, Sydney Hayslett.

The vision of Stone Haven is to offer a safe space in Central Virginia for survivors of sexual exploitation to come and do the hard work of healing. Stone Haven is a place for women to live in community and learn from one another. The work of recovery from sexual exploitation is best done in tight circles where there is trust. We only hope to be able to provide the space and tools to make this possible.
